French Minister of Agriculture to visit Ohio

On Friday, June 26th and Saturday, June 27th Stephane Le Foll, French Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, and Spokesperson of the Government will make a special visit to Columbus, Ohio to discuss carbon sequestration, climate and environmental issues with local farmers and researchers before the ‘Paris Summit” or United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP21/CMP11 to take place November 30 – December 11 in Paris – France.

During his visit to Ohio, Minister Le Foll will meet with a group of local farmers to discuss the environmental impact of farming and agricultural risk management tools in the U.S in particular in the dairy and major crops industries.

He will also visit David Brandt farms, 1,200 acres in central Ohio’s Fairfield County. David Brandt is a pioneer of innovative farming in particular using continuous no-till practices since 1971 and using cover crops to improve soil and water quality. David Brandt’s cooperation with Ohio State University researchers provides a unique site for studying the long term changes in soil health and ecosystem services. Mr. Brandt has been widely recognized as one of the United States’ leaders in sustainable agricultural production.

Minister Le Foll will also discuss research carbon sequestration in soils as a priority for France with researchers at the Carbon Management and Sequestration Center (C-MASC) at The Ohio State University.

The Carbon Management and Sequestration Center (CMASC) at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio conducts research on the best methods for reducing atmospheric CO2 through sustainable land management practices. Simultaneously, CMASC investigates strategies to enhance food security, improve water use efficiency, and reduce poverty. The research team is led by Distinguished Professor Rattan Lal, research staff, PhD students, MSc students, affiliated universities and other collaborators and sponsors. Professor Lal was recently was named to Thomson Reuters’ list of The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds. (source: C-MASC)
