Share Your Story contest: Alice & James Winners of Week 11!

Congratulations to James and Alice from Kalamazoo, Michigan for talking about the great time they spent in France last year.

James’ story

GIFI went to France in the summer of 2014 with my family. I was seven years old and it was my first visit to France. I learned French in preschool and I got to speak French a lot with people in France! While I was in France, I was able to visit lots of interesting places, including Euro Disney, Paris, Bayeux, Mont St Michel, and Strasbourg. Euro Disney was even prettier than Disneyworld in Florida. In Paris, the River Seine was set up as “Paris Plages” with sand and beach chairs along the river bank. There were wonderful sand castles on display and I also got to build my own sand castle.

I am sending a picture of me and my sister learning how to make potato pancakes at Cuisine Aptitude in Strasbourg. We took a boat tour of the city. I thought the water gates were very interesting! There were really pretty buildings and lots of nice restaurants. My favorite French food was chocolate chaud. I can’t wait to go back!

Alice’s story

GIFMy name is Alice and I’m nine years old. I went to France in the summer of 2014 with my family. We visited the Paris and the north of France – Bayeux, Mont St Michel, and Strasbourg. I really enjoyed seeing the Bayeux tapestry. I thought it was interesting that the needlework would represent a whole city with just one house. Bayeux had some very pretty playgrounds for children. I met a boy at the playground one day and we played touche-touche (tag) and cache-cache (hide and go seek). We had lots of fun and when it was time to leave, he asked me if I was from Paris. I thought that was really funny!

GIFI loved all of France, but probably my favorite spot was Mont St Michel. I thought it was very fun to look at something so old. All the streets and shops were connected. At the top was a big monastery. Some parts are actually built out of the rock that the mountain is made of. Mont St Michel was the place that I tried mussels for the first time. I was surprised that I liked them, and so was mommy! In fact, I didn’t just like them, I loved them. Mussels are magnifique!
