Share Your Story contest: Landa Winner of Week 6!

Congratulations to Landa for telling us about her life long love affair with France and all things French!

My love affair with France and all things French began when I was five years old and my mother gave me a story book in the much loved "Babar the Elephant" book series. I treasured that book and the language and culture it introduced me to and I began to dream of learning French and visiting France someday....

JPEGI grew up, studied French in high school and college and met and married my soul mate, Fred, who, as a Formula 1 racing fan, had dreams of his own for visiting France. We made our dreams come true with a fairytale honeymoon on the French Riviera for the Monaco Grand Prix! While staying at a lovely bed and breakfast in Menton, our terrace afforded us sweeping and beautiful views of La Côte d’Azur and our hosts Marie-Noel and her son Charles made our visit a wonderful one. We explored the towns along the Mediterranean, sniffing perfume in Grasse, appreciating art at the Fondation Maeght in St Paul de Vence, and at the Matisse Chapel in Vence. We sampled the lifestyles of the rich and famous by visiting Monte Carlo, Cannes, St Tropez and Nice and checked out the nightlife in Marseille. Continuing west we journeyed to the Languedoc-Roussillon region, staying at a beautiful resort in Canet-Plage, and touring the medieval fortress of Carcassonne and the cloistered Cathedral of Elne. Our flight back home included a several hours long connection in Paris so we hopped on Le Metro and and took a quick trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower to say au revoir to France, until we see her again.....

Fred and I journeyed to France again with my parents and our five year old daughter Siobhán, who remembers Paris Disneyland but not the Louvre or the Palace of Versailles which we also visited on that trip! When I told her about Louis becoming King when he was 5 and asked her what she would do if she was the ruler she exclaimed "ice cream for everyone!"

Fast forward to Siobhán’s Sweet 16 Birthday trip to Paris where we attended a fashion show at Galleries Lafayette, mass at Nôtre Dame Cathédrale and a college visit to the Sorbonne. Siobhán studied French through high school and is now an Honors student pursuing a degree in Neuroscience with a minor in French. She has her own dreams of returning to France some day and so we say au revoir, until we see her again....
