Mr. Graham PAUL assumed the position of Consul General of France in Chicago on June 4th, 2010.
Prior to the present appointment, Mr. PAUL was Deputy Head of the French Embassy in Berlin (2007-2010) and Consul General in Munich (2006-2007).
He was previously detached for two years (2004-2006) as Director for International Relations to the city of Bordeaux.
Mr. PAUL joined the Foreign Service in 1984. He was first posted in Cameroon as Second Secretary at the French Embassy in Yaoundé (1984-1987), before returning to Paris to work on German Affairs (1987-1989). He served two years in East-Berlin at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall (1989-1990), and was subsequently Deputy Head of the French Consulate General in Hamburg (1991-1994).
He went on to serve as counsellor with the Delegation of France to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna (1997-1998). He was then appointed Deputy Director for Strategic Affairs in Paris at the Quai d’Orsay (1998-2001), before spending three years as political Counsellor in Tokyo (2001-2004).
Born in 1958, Graham PAUL holds a degree in law and is a graduate of the Institute of Political Studies of Bordeaux. He is married and has three daughters; the youngest is living with her parents in Chicago.
