OBLIGATION TO SUBMIT A VIROLOGIC SCREENING TEST

Decree of July 27, 2020, for all arrivals in France from Saturday, August 1, 2020

In accordance with Decree no. 2020-911 of July 27, 2020, Travellers 11 years of age or older departing from the United States must present, as of August 1, the result of a PCR test performed less than 72 hours before the flight that does not conclude covid-19 contamination. A list of available test sites in the United States, based on your place of residence, can be found on your consulate’s website. However, we recommend making sure that results will be available in time before taking a test.

In exceptional and documented cases where it is impossible to obtain a test within the time limit and there are compelling reasons to travel on the planned date, you may apply to the consulate competent for your residence to request a certificate of exemption. The Consulate reminds you of the obligation to actively seek a PCR test before your departure to avoid being tested upon arrival at the airport and the related waiting time. If they can present neither a document attesting to the completion of a PCR test within the required timeframe, nor an exemption certificate, boarding will be denied.

To request an exemption certificate, please send the following documents to contact@consulfrance-chicago.org:

- copy of the passeport(s)
- copy of the receipt of the virologic testing(s)
- copy of the flight reservation
- and mention of the reason of the request

CERTIFICATE FROM ABROAD TO MAINLAND FRANCE or OVERSEAS COMMUNITIES and STATEMENT OF ABSENCE OF COVID-19 SYMPTOMS

Every traveler is requested, since 8 April 2020, to fill out and carry one of the following travel certificates according to each situation :
• for an international travel from abroad to France
or
• for a trip to overseas communities

From 25 May 2020, travelers are also requested to fill out and carry with them:
• a statement certifying they do not have any symptoms of a COVID-19 infection.

It is also important to note that, in the context of the Covid-19 epidemic, the external borders of the European Union and the Schengen Area have been closed to travelers from the United States since March 17 and that, in this context, only those persons who fall within one of the categories mentioned in the exempted international movement certificate for travel from abroad to mainland France are authorized to enter France.

You will find the exempted international movement certificate and the statement of absence of COVID-19 symptoms at the following address:

This information will be updated regularly based on further clarifications over the coming days.
