Following the annoucement of the dissolution of the Assemblée Nationale, the lower house of the French Parliament, new legislative elections will be held on Sat. June 29 for the 1st round and, if necessary, Sat. July 6 for the 2nd round in North America and the Caribbean (June 30th - July 7th in France and the rest of the world).

To mark the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, the Consulate General of France was fully mobilized, from honoring WWII veterans, to organizing programs for the youth, and attending or coordinating various commemorative events.

On June 4, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, WWII Veteran Emil Hirsch presented his experiences to 5-7th graders at French-American School of Chicago (EFAC)/ Lincoln Elementary School.

On May 30th, Consul General of France Yannick Tagand joined the Alliance Française de Chicago in honoring students laureates of the Educational Outreach Program “Award Towards Excellence." This year also marked the 26th Anniversary of the program.

Consul General Tagand was in Des Moines on May 28th to bid a warm farewell to Honorary Consul Mark Schlenker. We are grateful for his 20 years of dedication to our community and help in fostering relations between France and Iowa. We wish him the best in his retirement.
